Training for the teen years

More than a workout. Something to work toward.

The teen years bring new pressures, changing priorities, and plenty of opportunities to question yourself. REAL Teens offers a constructive place to train, build genuine skills, and make progress that feels earned.

Students learn to work with partners, respond to coaching, handle setbacks, and take on challenges at their own level. No one needs to arrive athletic, outgoing, or confident. They do need to be willing to participate and try.

What teens gain

Strength built through experience.

Real training offers more than something to do after school. It gives teens a chance to practice skills that matter on and off the mats.

01

Real martial arts ability

Develop striking, Jiu Jitsu, coordination, and practical movement skills through purposeful instruction.

02

Confidence grounded in competence

Build trust in your abilities by practicing, improving, and overcoming challenges—not by being told you're great.

03

Resilience & personal responsibility

Learn to manage frustration, accept feedback, show up consistently, and take ownership of progress.

04

Connection & belonging

Train alongside peers, work with partners, and build relationships in a supportive, respectful environment.

What training looks like

Two disciplines. Real development.

REAL Teens learn striking and Jiu Jitsu through progressive instruction, technical practice, and challenges appropriate to their experience.

Striking

Develop punches, kicks, defense, movement, and control through technical drills, pad work, and appropriate partner practice.

Jiu Jitsu

Learn grappling fundamentals, positioning, escapes, control, and problem-solving with training partners.

Progressive challenges

As students gain skill and readiness, training becomes more demanding. We prioritize sound technique, safety, and meaningful development.

The REAL approach

High expectations. Real support.

Teens don't need another place where they're judged for not being good at something yet. They need a place where they're encouraged to try, expected to put in effort, and given the tools to improve.

Our coaches take students seriously. We provide clear instruction, honest feedback, and a training environment where respect, consistency, and personal growth matter.

“We don't believe in making martial arts easy. We believe in creating challenges worth overcoming.”

Progress with purpose

Achievement should mean something.

At REAL, rank and advancement reflect developing ability, consistency, and readiness. We want teens to experience the pride that comes from earning a milestone—not simply receiving one.

Progress looks different for every student. What matters is learning to take feedback, stay engaged, and keep working toward the next goal.

Good questions

What teens and parents ask.

Does my teen need martial arts experience?

No. Beginners are welcome. We help students build their skills progressively and challenge them at an appropriate level.

What will my teen learn?

REAL Teens trains both striking and Jiu Jitsu, with a focus on technical skill, movement, control, and progressive development.

What if my teen is shy, unathletic, or unsure about joining?

That's okay. Students arrive with different personalities and abilities. An introductory lesson gives them a chance to meet a coach and experience the environment without needing to have it all figured out.

Is the program only about self-defense?

No. Martial arts skills are central, but training also offers physical challenges, constructive peer interaction, and opportunities to develop resilience and personal responsibility.

How do promotions work?

Advancement reflects demonstrated skills, consistency, effort, and readiness. We want each achievement to be meaningful.
